The church was rebuilt in 1508 by Giorgio Spavento and was continued, when he died, by Tullio Lombardo. Scamozzi finished it and architect Guiseppe Sardi designed the baroque facade in 1663. Its five domes and barrel vaults utilize the light to great effect in the interior. Among the art works inside are the statues of Charity and Hope by Sansovino, who carved them when he was almost 80 years old, and Titian's Annunciation of 1566.
